I know I don’t know more about football, how to prepare a team, or teach a guy how to take a good angle to the ball carrier. But I do know that in all the football I’ve ever watched, I’ve never seen another coach call that timeout. For believeing Jim Caldwell made a critical error, I offer this apology.

You are right. I think Caldwell just stepped in it. Everyone has a “deer in the headlights” moment. I am an architect, so we usually get time to make truly life and death decisions. While I wouldn’t call making calls in a football game life and death, they are high pressure decisions and Caldwell being the conservative guy he is just blinked and called it wrong. The worst thing is having to listen to “Mike and Mike” and then “Colin Cowherd” tell us how brilliant Rex Ryan and the Jets are. If not for Colt mistakes toward the end, the Colts win that game. It’s that simple. Even worse is listening to Trent Dilfer, who doesn’t like the Colts anyway. I hate to say fate but in some way that almost appears to be what it was. As hard as the Colts fought there were just too many things working against them this year. Think about the “poor” Saints and Eagles though. They didn’t have the excuses the Colts did and they really sucked in a lot of ways this weekend. I didn’t hear the Colts players or Coaches using what were obvious reasons such as injuries to explain away their not winning. I think it says a lot about them. Poor Coach Caldwell, he couldn’t explain the call but he sure tried to.
