Donald Davidson Remembers Four-Time Indy 500 Champ and Pace Car Drivers A.J. Foyt

When Donald finished talking about A.J. Foyt in this video, he asked, “Do you think I was fair to tell those stories?”  He said that Foyt wouldn’t like people hearing about his generosity.

I told him that it was more than fair.  The more people hear about the good deeds of others, the more likely they are to author a few of their own, and if Foyt’s minor embarrassment at being outed as an “old softie” is a small price to pay.

Especially in light of his recent and controversial decision to sell Bruno Junquiera’s ride out from under him to Andretti Autosport, it might be a good time to tell people about something selfless Foyt did for others.

If this guy and Bob Knight aren’t similar, I don’t know two other sports legends that are. Both are a real dichotomy. They are super competitive but have their own set of principles they adhere to. They are both abrasive but have this hidden caring side that they are not willing to talk about which to me shows that it is genuine. I have been to two races that Foyt won and more than a few that he did not. I enjoyed watching every time.
