There are guys who get it, and guys who don’t. Indiana Pacers first-round pick Solomon Hill gets it. Anyone who listened to Solomon Hill this afternoon or yesterday on 1070 the Fan heard a mature young man who understands not just his role on a team, but also in a city.
That makes him absolutely the right guy for the Pacers to take with the 23rd pick in Thursday night’s NBA draft.
He’s a versatile basketball player who can score a little bit, rebound, and defend at three spots, but we want just a little bit more from professional athletes in Indianapolis.
We like pro athletes to actually behave like professionals, and Solomon said something at the end of the interview we did today that revealed his professional wisdom. He mentioned the word “brand”, and how his behavior will determine his brand.
Smart guy. The guys who don’t understand branding are bankrupt after they retire. Those you use their position an a pro athlete to create a valuable brand will earn a living forever.
You will like Solomon on the court and off, and as a result, he will likely be in Indianapolis for a long time.
Here is the interview that aired live today on “Ahead of the Curve.”
