Stephen Zimmerman is seven-feet tall, runs the floor, can catch and shoot the ball very well. That makes him a popular guy among coaches who would like to win a lot of games beginning in 2015, and fans who would like their schools to be successful.
The Under Armour Elite 24 game will be played tonight in Brooklyn, and as one of the top rated 2015 recruits, and the top big man in his class, Zimmerman will join 23 other future collegiate stars to show off a little bit.
Zimmerman is quite blunt about what he is looking for in a college. He wants to go to the school that will allow him the best chance to reach his dream of playing in the NBA.
Indiana University has offered him a scholarship, and given former Hoosier center Cody Zeller’s selection as the #4 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft it would seem logical that the Hoosiers will be a player in the war for his services.
What I especially like about Stephen is that he becomes enthusiastic about talking about his teammates at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. A point guard that I really liked at the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis played alongside Stephen in that tourney as well as at Gorman is a 2014 recruit Noah Robotham. He does the stuff offensively that I like in a point guard – deliver the ball on time and on target – which would explain why Stephen enjoys playing with him so much.
Along with the questions about hir recruiting that must be asked, I also gave Stephen a chance to make a pitch for Noah, and he took full advantage.
Another thing that makes Stephen a special kid is that his recruiting has become something the entire family enjoys.
The Elite 24 game will air on ESPNU tonight at 7p ET live from Brooklyn, and Indiana fans will have several potential Hoosiers to watch. Stephen will be among them, along with Goodluck Okonoboh and Isaiah Whitehead. Stephen will wear #3 for Team Coney Island, and Okonoboh and Whitehead will play for Team Bed-Stuy and wear numbers 22 and 19 respectively.
