“Ahead of the Curve” with Hagan and Sterling Loaded with Great Guests Saturday at 9a

by Kent Sterling

UnknownFor all the people headed to Bloomington or West Lafayette tomorrow for a great day of college football, Chris Hagan and I have put together a spectacular show from 9a-11a on 1070 the Fan and 107.5 FM in Indianapolis.  For those outside of central Indiana, listen live at 1070thefan.com.

The Hoosiers play at Noon against a very good 2-0 Bowling Green team, and the Boilermakers wait until 8p to muster a challenge against a very good Notre Dame team.  While you wait for the games to start, listening to the author of an explosive new book on college football called “The System”, an Indiana high school senior who blew up during the July recruiting period and will be playing against Indiana and Purdue for the next four years, former Purdue assistant coach Rick Venturi worked in the NFL for 26 years and he’ll talk about whether the Dolphins Cameron Wake is as scary as everyone says, and Indiana kicker Mitch Ewald joins with everything you need to know to become a great kicker.

Now you know why hosting “Ahead of the Curve” is the best two hours of my week.

Jeff Benedict co-wrote “The System” with Armen Keteyian, and they have done a great job pulling back the curtain on college football.  There has been a lot of chatter from Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports this week, but Benedict not only reports in “The System” about the ugly underbelly in college football but the reasons people love it.

Bryant McIntosh is a senior at Greensburg High School who reaped his recruiting during July, and received offers from all over the place, but decided on the great education and experience at Northwestern where he’ll play basketball for new head coach Chris Collins.  We’ll talk to him about that decision and everything that went into it.

Rick Venturi is one of the best defensive minds in the history of football.  He’s been studying the tape on Miami’s win against Cleveland, and he knows what hell they might bring to bear against the Colts at 1p Sunday (on 1070 the Fan).  Cameron Wake looked like the unholy demon child of former Colts Dwight Freeney and Richard Dent as he made Brandon Weeden look miserable in the second half last Sunday.  Coach Venturi will tell us what the Colts can do to neutralize Wake and the rest of that very fast front seven, and allow Andrew Luck to do what he can to move the offense down the field again and again.

Mitch Ewald is going to finish his time at Indiana as the best kicker in program history, and he’ll tell us exactly how kicking works.  He’ll talk about why kickers all pace off their steps prior to approaching the ball, and the similarity between kicking and golf.

Plus, I get to mock Hagan for his man crush on Michael Buble’.  He’ll find any number of things to make me squirm about – my requirement for attentive customer service from fast food restaurant employees has been a recent target.

It all starts at 9a, and we’ll take you right up to the pregame of Indiana vs. Bowling Green at 11a.
