Talk of Gasoline Alley’s Donald Davidson Tells My Favorite Indy 500 Story – His Own

by Kent Sterling

The Indianapolis 500 is a fascinating event celebrating its 100th anniversary today, and the guy who knows more about the traditions and race than anyone else in the world has become one of the events greatest traditions himself.

Donald Davidson has hosted “The Talk of Gasoline Alley” for 40 years, and followed his dream of coming to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway seven years prior to that.

People have asked Donald about Duke Nailon, A.J. Foyt, Ray Harroun, and the Novi, but this raceday memory from Donald is about the IMS historian himself, the host of my favorite Indy 500 tradition.

That was a really great piece. It’s nice to get to know the guy who gives my Indianapolis Motor Speedway experience wonderful depth and authenticity. We are very fortunate that Donald Davidson took such an extraordinary liking to our awesome sports tradition. Thank you very much!
