Five Days After the Play, ESPN Still Can’t Tell Difference Between Seahawks Hauschka and Ryan

by Kent Sterling

UnknownLast Sunday, former Indianapolis Colt Lawrence Guy blocked a Seattle Seahawks field goal attempt by kicker Steven Hauschka, and Delano Howell scooped it up and returned it for a Colts touchdown.

The weird part of the play, the part that ESPN anointed as part of it’s top ten plays of the week, was the white fellow who almost chased Howell down from behind (let’s face it, no one would find it strange to see an African American nearly catching Howell).

ESPN has played the video all week, and continues to identify the player hauling ass in pursuit of Howell as kicker Steven Hauschka, but the fast specialist is actually punter/holder Jon Ryan.  I don’t mind the occasional error, but to make it all week when the video shown shows #9 (Ryan) in pursuit – in a spot shadow no less – and #4 (Hauschka) jogging to the bench, the correction is so easy that one of the hundreds who touch Sportstcenter should have seen it.

When the play happened live, I thought maybe that was Hauschka, so I checked the roster.  Nope, it was #9.  Easy.

I didn’t notice (as a cowboys fan) the difference between the 2 guys … But that is messed up how no one, with all that payroll, couldn’t spot that. Tim – ft worth, Tx
