Switching basic defenses requires roster changes, and it can take some serious time.  The players like Dwight Freeney who were key in making the 4-3 with cover two work so well for so long become a liability in the 3-4 scheme that Chuck Pagano brought with him from Baltimore.

So how long does it take to install an entirely different scheme, and when can fans expect great success?  Longtime NFL defensive coordinator took a few minutes to explain it to me in the video below:

Freeney is a goner, and as of today is still looking for a gig as a pass rush specialist, and Bjoern Werner will step in his spot opposite Robert Mathis.  The Colts hope he will become a Paul Kruger or Bryce Paup type disruptive force for the Colts.

Venturi is the go-to guy for all football questions for kentsterling.com.  Nobody knows more, and nobody communicates it more effectively.  He’s enjoying time with family and breaking down tape.  Come fall, he’ll be one of the most sought after guests nationally for radio and TV stations/networks committed to excellent coverage of the NFL.
