Today’s “Ahead of the Curve” a Special Birthday Edition from NFL Combine

This outfit was part of a birthday present from my wife and son. Due to the chilly weather, I am reluctant to wear it during the show, but it will be a staple during my leisure time.

The NFL Combine is a media orgy unlike anything else in sports.  There is no event that is available to cover, but there are still hundreds of people who cover the NFL wandering Lucas Oil Stadium looking for someone to talk to, and so that is exactly what Fox 59 sports director Chris Hagan and I will do today on “Ahead of the Curve” at 11a on 1070 the Fan and 1070thefan.com..

There will be many people to talk to, and so many things to talk about – whether sacrificing the 26th pick in the first round was worth whatever running back Trent Richardson can bring to the party in 2014 and beyond (because 2013 was a bust), what the Colts needs are and how they are best addressed, and just what the many athletes in Indy preparing to be selected in the May Draft may gain through their participation.

Of course, we’ll talk about the NBA trade deadline deal that sent Danny Granger from the Pacers to the 76ers and will bring Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen to Indianapolis.  Danny Granger’s farewell at Pacers practice yesterday was emotional, but underscored the focus that the team has on continuing to hold on to the best record – at least in the Eastern Conference.

The Pacers will be without Turner and Allen tonight against the 10-44 Milwaukee Bucks, but Andrew Bynum looks like he’s getting closer to contributing.  What talk about the influx of talent and what it will mean for the final 28 games of the regular season, and more importantly the playoffs.

The Indiana Hoosiers will try to start the process of turning their season around tonight at Northwestern.  The Hoosiers have lost six of their last eight, and have a score to settle against Northwestern whose defense caused trouble in Bloomington just over a month ago.

Our guests will be magnificent as always, and there will be fun – plenty of fun.  Today is my birthday, and I love birthdays.  My mood is ebullient, and the show will reflect that.

Ahh, those were the days. I was unaware of the state’s existence, much less the coaching idiosyncrasies of Sweet Lou Watson. Thanks for looking that us.
